Wreckless Soldier claims the life of Kiss Employee and leaves one injured

KISS BAKING DRIVER KILLED BY RECKLESS MOTORIST.

THE driver of a Kiss Baking Company truck was killed in a collision with a speeding car on the Solomon Hochoy Highway yesterday morning.

Neil Ballai, 55, of Eccles Trace in Spring Village, Valsayn died at the scene of the collision.

His co-worker, Terrence Jagasar, 34, of Cumuto, who was sitting alongside him in the truck, sustained injuries and was hospitalised.

The speeding car that hit the truck and drove away—a black Hyundai Ioniq—was captured on security camera driving in Preysal minutes after the fatal collision, with the bonnet of the car smashed, raised and blocking most of the front windscreen.

The front bumper and grill of the driver’s Ioniq car were left at a second crash location in Preysal.

Police obtained information and last evening TTPS Road Traffic Safety Coordinator Sgt Brent Batson confirmed that the suspect is a soldier.

Batson told the Express via WhatsApp message that the suspect “is to surrender to police. He is a serving soldier so certain protocols now have to be followed”.

A police report stated that the crash occurred at around 6.45 a.m. as Ballai was headed south on the highway, driving on the left lane.

In the vicinity of Couva, the black Hyundai Ioniq, driving in the same direction at a high speed, attempted to overtake vehicles in the right lane. However, the car swerved towards the shoulder of the highway and collided with the rear of the Kiss truck.

Upon impact, the company truck spun out of control and crashed into bushes at the side of the highway.

It landed on the driver’s side and Ballai was pinned inside the vehicle.

The driver in the Ioniq sped off.

However, his vehicle was captured on the dash cam of a citizen’s vehicle, and the footage was quickly shared on social media.
